It's truly a blessing that one of my favourite actors was awarded with
the India's highest award in cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Shashi
Kapoor is the third member in the Kapoor family to receive this award,
after Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor. Shashi Kapoor was actually not
an actor whom the 'mass' keenly wanted to follow; his duo with the then
contemporary actor, Amitabh Bachchan, gave him the needed twist to stay
in the film land. But, on close observation, he was
an actor of class, of intelligence and of discipline, which the
majority overlooked. His contribution to the initial traveling Prithvi
theatre was immense and further, his hard work and dedication to build
the 'Prithvi Theatre' in memory of his father, Prithviraj Kapoor, was
indeed a commendable act. It, however, pains me to see the ailing
veteran actor now. Yet, a legend he is and will forever remain a legend.
